make it: a Krokbragd sampler
This video will take you through the steps to weave several different patterns, including a traditional bargello, with the Krokbragd pattern bar. We’ll break up the patterns into small units that make them easier to weave, and we’ll learn how to use the pattern bar with print patterns.
One note. While all Krokbragd patterns use the same 3 sheds, the order of the sheds can vary between patterns. For example, our pattern bar uses the plain-weave shed as the second shed, but I have seen some patterns and books that use the plain-weave shed as the third shed. This matters because if you put a color in shed 2 thinking that shed 2 is the plain weave shed, and it is not, the color won’t appear in the correct places, or the correct number of times in your row. So if you find a pattern elsewhere that you want to weave with the pattern bar, it’s worth looking to see how the sheds are arranged compared to our bar. You can find the layout of the sheds in our bar in the print materials at the bottom of the video page.
I highly recommend Debby Greenlaw’s most recent booK KROKBRAGD PATTERNS, which is a treasure trove of designs that work perfectly with our pattern bar. She lays out her patterns in a similar manner as I’ve done in the sampler, and you should have no trouble with them.
PS Don’t forget to look at the back of your sampler when you’re done — it’s just as good as the front, in my humble opinion!
